See You at the Pole, and More!
Okay guys, there’s lots going on with IVCF to let you know about!
First things first. Tomorrow (Wednesday Sept. 23) is See You at the Pole, an international day of prayer where students gather at their flagpoles to pray for their school, cities, nations, and the world. We’ll be meeting at the flagpole at 8:00 a.m. In case you don’t know where that is, it’s just outside of the Classroom Building, not far from the bus-stop.
We’ll also have our Information Table set up tomorrow (Wednesday Sept. 23) in the Lab Building starting at 9:30 a.m. We still need a few signatures for the club ratification form that we need to fill out for the Student Union. So if you haven’t had a chance to sign the forms, please stop by!
This Friday we’ll be having a Games Night at 7:00 p.m. in the Center for Kinesiology room 187 (CK 187). And by Games, I mean “run around, push each other” kind of games. And by night, I mean evening. Oh, and there’ll be chips and drinks as well. Sure to be a good time.
Finally, a bit of heads up regarding next week. We’re hoping to start up small groups as soon as possible. At current, we’re looking at holding a Prayer Group on Mondays and a Bible Study on James on Wednesdays (probably in the afternoon). If you’d be interested in attending either group, let us know. We’ll try to accommodate as many people’s schedules as possible!
Fall 2009
It’s already September and a new school year is just around the bend. And just like you’ve been preparing to get back to classes, the IVCF executive has been doing some planning for the upcoming year.
We’ll be holding our traditional Kickoff BBQ Friday, September 11 at 5:30 p.m. at Candy Cane Park. Come meet new people and get connected with the University’s most active Christian club on campus. Bring $2 to help cover the costs. [Rides will be available from the Ad-Hum pit at 5:30 p.m. Don’t be late!]
Here’s the next three Friday events at a glance:
September 18 – Guest Speaker
September 25 – Games Night
October 2 – Worship Night
We’ll also be starting small groups soon. If you’re interested in a Bible study or other group, drop us an email at ivcfregina[AT]gmail[DOT]com .
Community Outreach
This Friday, March 27 we’ll be heading down-town to do some community outreach. In other words, we want to give something back to the community, even if it is a small gesture. So we’ll be handing out granola bars around Victoria Park and the Cornwall Centre (especially near the bus-stops). We’ll be meeting in the Ad-Hum pit at 6:00 p.m. to put some “From IVCF” labels on the bars, and then we’ll be leaving from there no later than 6:45 p.m. to go hand them out down town.
Bananarama!
This Friday the 13th, IVCF will be hosting an incredible time of mayhem and madness known only as Bananarama. What is the Bananarama, you ask? Well, it’s a competition where each team hurries frantically across campus, measuring specified objects in “banana lengths.” The first team to measure all the objects and make it back to the base wins! Oh, and did I mention we’ll be having banana splits afterwards??? This is not a event to miss! The night will begin at 7:00 p.m. in front of the chapel of Luther College (that’s on floor 2), and the ice-cream eating will take place in room 215 of Luther. From there, we’ll divide into teams and get the game on. Like the poster says: Bring your game face and your ice-cream-eating face.
This Wednesday, we’ll be having a table set up across from the Lab Cafe. Come on out and say hi!
Also at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, there’ll be a God Goes to the Movies night. The movie The Great Debaters will be showing in Luther College 100. Expect snacks and a good discussion.
And now for a bit of a more long term heads-up:
ISM (International Students Ministry) will be hosting their annual International Ice Skating Party. This is a great opportunity for Canadian students to come out and help teach international students a bit about Canadian culture. Skates are provided, but please bring a snack if you can, and $4 per person to help cover the costs. It will be held Saturday February 21 from 5:30 to 9:00 at Jack Staples Arena (444 N. Broad St.). [If you’re interested in helping out, giving rides, etc. please contact Stan Klassen at sklassen@accesscomm.ca]
URBANA 09 is coming up at the end of this year, so now’s the time to start planning! Registration is now open at http://www.urbana09.org. Urbana is a missions conference for North American students hosted by InterVarsity Christian Fellowship (USA) and Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship Canada. Held once every three years, with an average attendance size of about 20,000 people from all over the world, Urbana has become an integral program for college students to both hear about cutting edge issues in missions and to respond to the call to participate in God’s global mission. During the five days of Urbana, participants will experience multicultural worship and drama, dynamic speakers, in-depth Bible study, and prayer. They will also be encouraged to explore short-term and vocational opportunities as they interact with representatives from more than 300 mission agencies and educational institutions. Urbana 09 will be held December 27-31, 2009 in St. Louis, Missouri.
Small Group Fellowship: Connect with the body of Christ
This Friday in the wonderful world of IVCF, we’ll be holding another Small Groups evening. Choose one that you like. Each group will be spending some social fun time together, as well as taking some time to pray for each other. Rides will be available from the Ad-Hum pit at 6:45 p.m. sharp. For contact info, see the poster above.

Guys’ Night [open to men]

Mini-Retreat 2009
This weekend is the IVCF mini-retreat, taking place Friday evening and will continue Saturday morning and afternoon. The retreat will focus on the story of Gideon (found in Judges). As we study his calling, we’ll have a chance to consider what it means to know and do God’s will in our own lives.
It begins Friday night at 7:00 p.m. in room 285 of the Riddell Centre (that’s on the second floor, right across from the URSU office). On Saturday, we’ll get together again for part of the day at 20 Boyce Street at 10:00 a.m. (rides will be available from the Ad-Hum pit at 9:45 a.m. sharp). Oh, did I mention there’ll be meals provided on Saturday? Good food, good studies, and good worship. What more could you want???
Got homework? No worries! The event is planned to end Saturday at supper time. That means you have Saturday evening and all of Sunday off. Even if you can only make it to the Friday portion (or to the Saturday portion), it’s worth coming. But to get the best experience, plan to make the whole event: Friday evening, Saturday morning and Saturday afternoon.
So spend part of this weekend digging into the Word of God
“Knowing and Doing God’s Will:” it’s what we’re called to do.
Happy New Year
Happy New Year! (And Happy Epiphany to any liturgically backgrounded members (and Merry Christmas to any Orthodox members!))
Well, Christmas holidays have come and gone, and we’re into another semester of classes. It’s the New Year and so of course people across the nation are making all sorts of resolutions as to what they intend to do this year. So what better time to consider what our relationships with God should be like over the coming year? This Friday, January 9, we’ll be meeting in Luther Chapel (that’s the second floor of the Luther College building) at 7:00 p.m. to Share Life. So what does that mean? Well, we’ll be playing some games as ice-breakers. We’ll also be singing some worship songs. But the real focus of the evening will be an open opportunity for everyone to share what they think God’s been teaching them over the Christmas break – or alternately, what you think God wants from you in this new semester. It’ll be an open-mic kind of night, where anyone who wants to share a bit of a testimony can do so.
That same evening, we’ll also be giving you some information about what kind of events we’ve got planned for the upcoming semester, and we’ll be talking about our small groups and prayer groups. So it’s not an evening you want to miss!
In other news, we’ll be having an Information Table set up in the Riddel Centre on Wednesday, January 7 from about 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. If you’d like more info about Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship, or would like to sit at the table to help new students learn about the group, then stop on by!
But that’s it for now. See you all this Friday!
Christmas Banquet
That’s right, the one, the only annual IVCF Christmas Banquet will be held this Friday (November 28). As per usual, it will be a potluck event, and it will be taking place in the Study Area of the New Lab Building. Oh, and if you so desire, this is a great opportunity to dress up a bit more formally!
See you there!
IVCF Events
Greetings all!
This week holds a few events for IVCF. On Wednesday, as always, IVCF will be having a table set up in the hallways. We should be in the Lab Cafe, but if for some reason we’re not there we’ll be in the Riddel Centre. Come out and sit awhile with us!
For Friday’s event we’ll be holding a Worship Night at 7:00 p.m. in Luther Chapel (2nd Floor of Luther College). Come meet with God in a real way through song, prayer, and Scripture. Justin and I (Matty) will also share some of our experiences from the NSLC conference we attended back in December, and the things God laid upon our hearts during that time. And we’ll be letting you know how you can attend the conference this year! This is not a night to miss!
Finally, on Saturday ISM (International Student Ministries), a branch of IVCF that ministers especially to international students, will be hosting an International Friendship Party. This event will be taking place Saturday, November 8 at 7:00 p.m. in Gym 1 and CK 113. There’ll be options of floor-hockey, volleyball, board games (bring one if you can!) and snacks. This is a great opportunity for Canadian students to connect with internationals, and to show them hospitality and friendship.
I hope to see you all this week!
Events this week…
After a fabulous time at the coffee house, IVCF is proud to present the latest and greatest events of the upcoming week!
First things first: As always, IVCF will have a Table set up in the university on Wednesday. For alot of people, the table is their first public exposure to IVCF. So if you’d like to spend a little time being a visible presence on campus, drop by to sit with us for awhile. We’re usually set up from 9:00 to 2:30. Oh, and this week we’ll be in the Riddel Centre (if for some reason we’re not there, we’ll be in the Lab Cafe).
Also this Wednesday is God Goes to the Movies, with a feature film this month of “Elizabeth: The Golden Age.” If you’re interested in good movies, good snacks, and good discussion, come to Luther College room 100 at 7:00 p.m.
Finally, the pièce de résistance. This Friday’s event will be a Costume Party. Look forward to a night of games and merriment, as well as inspirational testimony about how God is at work in the lives of some IVCF members. The event will be in the Language Institute Theatre (LI Theatre). That’s on the second floor, for those of you who might not know. So feel free to come in costume (or not, if you so prefer), and bring a snack if you like.
Till then.
